Painters in Coogee Coastal homes, painted inside and out.

We’re Proview Painting, painters in Coogee and across Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, and Coogee is home: we’re based here. Salt air, strong sun and four storey apartment blocks all need different prep, and your written quote spells out exactly what each one gets.

A painter in Coogee, based in Coogee

Proview Painting is based right here, so when you ask for a quote, Neil comes round himself to walk through the job, wherever you are in Coogee. He prices it on the spot from what he sees, not from a photo.

Coogee is really three painting jobs, not one

The beachfront. From North Coogee down to South Coogee, the beachfront takes salty wind all year: Arden Street, Beach Street and everything looking over the sand and Ross Jones pool. Salt left on render or timber is the main reason a coastal repaint lets go early, so every exterior here starts with a proper wash, then the right primer for each surface and a topcoat made for the coast. Expect a 5 to 7 year exterior cycle. There’s more in how long exterior paint lasts near the beach.

The apartment belt. The older apartment blocks around Coogee Bay Road, Dolphin Street and Brook Street, built from the 1920s through to the 1960s, with Art Deco blocks among them. A big share of Coogee is strata, so a lot of the work is common property: stairwells, balcony soffits and rendered facades, with committee sign off and a compliance pack. See strata painting in Sydney.

The hill behind. Up Carrington Road towards Randwick, salt matters less and the sun on north and west walls matters more. Federation cottages, semis and brick homes up here usually go 8 to 12 years between exterior repaints.

Need house painters in Coogee for something else? We also do interior and exterior house painting, commercial and strata painting, timber decks and pressure washing.

Painting Coogee’s homes and blocks

Getting the salt off first

Salt, chalk and mould stop paint sticking, so an exterior this close to the water starts with a proper wash, then the right primer for each surface: bare timber, render, brick and metal each need a different one. On top go two full coats of a 100% acrylic coastal system such as Dulux Weathershield, not one coat thinned to stretch it. Our guide to the best paint for coastal homes goes further.

Reaching the upper levels

Many Coogee blocks are three and four storeys with tight side setbacks, so scaffold or a boom is often the honest answer rather than ladders. It’s priced upfront in the quote, never added once work starts.

Colours in coastal light

Coastal light shifts colours more than people expect, so we test your shortlist on the actual walls and look at it with you in the morning and the afternoon before anything is locked in. Inside, a washable low sheen such as Dulux Wash&Wear, and a warm white usually sits better in Coogee’s strong sun than a stark cool white.

Character homes

Coogee’s older federation cottages get sensitive colour choices and proper preparation of the original timber and render, with cracks patched, gap filled and spot primed so they disappear under the finish rather than being painted over.

How we quote and schedule a Coogee job

01

Free quote, in writing

Call Neil on 0416 070 326 or use the quote form and we'll get back to you. Neil is based in Coogee and quotes every job personally, with the written quote itemised so you can see exactly where the money goes.

02

Colour planning

We bring swatches and sample pots and test your shortlist on the actual walls, so colours are checked in real coastal light before anything is locked in.

03

Prep and paint

Salt, chalk and grime are washed off first, surfaces are sanded and primed for what they actually are, then the full paint system goes on: primer or sealer where needed, plus two full finish coats. The quote includes a start date and an estimated number of working days.

04

Clean handover

Tools packed, sheets folded and the site left tidy at the end of every day, then a walk through together before we call the job finished, backed by our 5 year written workmanship guarantee.

Painting in Coogee: common questions

How much does it cost to paint a house in Coogee?

As a guide for 2026: a single room $600 to $1,500, a three bedroom interior $6,000 to $12,000, and a full exterior $8,000 to $25,000+. Every quote is walked and itemised so you can see exactly where the money goes.

Are you based in Coogee?

Yes. Proview Painting is based in Coogee, so Neil can come round to walk through your job and you can actually get hold of him.

What paint holds up best on Coogee’s coastal exposure?

A top grade 100% acrylic exterior system over the right primer for each surface, after a thorough wash. On beachfront walls we use Dulux Weathershield coastal systems. The system matters more than the tin.

Do you do apartments and strata work in Coogee?

Yes. A lot of Coogee is apartment blocks and strata. We handle common property repaints, balconies and stairwells, with the full compliance pack for owners corporations.

How often do Coogee homes need repainting?

It depends how close you are to the water. Beachfront homes on Arden and Beach Street usually need an exterior repaint every 5 to 7 years, because the salt never stops landing. Up the hill towards Carrington Road, 8 to 12 years is normal. Interiors usually last 10 to 15 years.

Do you paint the older brick apartment blocks around Coogee Bay Road?

Yes, they’re a big part of our Coogee work: common property repaints, stairwells, balcony soffits and rendered facades, with quotes ready for the committee, notice for residents and the full compliance pack. Blocks built before about 1970 are treated as containing lead paint, which changes how they’re prepared.

Is it worth repainting before selling in Coogee?

Usually, yes. In a suburb like Coogee with so many apartments, a freshly painted interior tells buyers the bigger things were probably looked after too, and peeling exterior paint gives them a reason to offer less. Repaint before the campaign photos, not after the building inspection.

Can I stay in my home while you paint in Coogee?

Yes, most clients do. Interiors are done room by room in an order agreed with you before we start. Furniture is moved to the middle of each room and covered, floors are sheeted, and the place is left tidy at the end of every day.

What’s the best finish for a deck or balcony near Coogee beach?

It depends on the timber and how exposed it is. Decking oil looks best but needs recoating every 12 to 18 months this close to the water. A good stain stretches to 2 to 4 years and evens out patched boards. Paint is only the right call for an old, heavily repaired deck.
