Victorian terraces and period homes in Paddington, painted with the right system for old lime render.
I’m Neil. Proview Painting has been trading since 2004, and I come out and quote every Paddington job myself.
Dulux AccreditedProview Painting are painters in Paddington and across Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. Paddington is Victorian and Edwardian terraces, iron lace verandahs and old plasterwork, nearly all of it inside a heritage conservation area, with the suburb split between Woollahra Council and the City of Sydney. Painting these houses properly takes the right products and some patience.
On a terrace the work is in the detail: timber joinery stripped and prepared properly, a breathable system on the render, and a colour scheme that suits the period. We also repaint whole buildings in Paddington for strata committees and property managers, including common areas, stairwells and facades. There’s more on terraces in our heritage terrace painting guide for Paddington.
If you need house painters in Paddington, call me on 0416 070 326 and I’ll come and quote it in person.
If you’re after house painters in Paddington, we do interior and exterior house painting, commercial and strata painting, timber deck and exterior timber restoration and pressure washing across Paddington. We’re licensed, insured and Dulux Accredited.
Paddington is Victorian and Edwardian terrace country, with ornate ironwork verandahs, heritage plasterwork and character-filled facades that need the right products and patience to get right.
Non-breathable acrylic over lime render is why so many terrace facades peel — the paint is pushed off from behind by trapped moisture. We use a vapour-permeable coating system so the wall can still breathe, with full prep and priming for the substrate underneath.
Paddington's terraces are known for their ornate ironwork verandahs, and on our Union Street project the rendered face, cast iron lacework balcony, window surrounds, columns and front fence were all repainted as part of the same exterior. Timber joinery is stripped and prepared properly rather than painted over.
Anything painted before 1970 is treated as likely to contain lead. We work to lead-safe practice under AS 4361.2 — containment, wet methods rather than dry power-sanding, HEPA clean-up and proper disposal.
Inside, the detail is where the labour goes — heritage cornicing, ceiling roses, timber staircases with turned balusters and ornate fireplaces, finished with a washable low-sheen on walls and the right sheen for trim, wet areas and ceilings.
We also work with strata committees and property managers on full building repaints in Paddington, including common areas, stairwells and facades, with our compliance pack of licence, insurance certificates and a site-specific SWMS.
Heritage jobs we’ve done in the Eastern Suburbs, with photos, what we did and the Dulux products we used:
A Victorian terrace with heritage cornicing, timber staircases with turned balusters, ornate fireplaces and French doors. The exterior — rendered face, cast iron lacework balcony, window surrounds, columns and front fence — was repainted in the same project.
View the project →A Victorian terrace where the old lime plaster was carefully removed from the staircase wall, and the original sandstock brick beneath was stabilised with a penetrating sealer and left as a feature. Walls, ceilings, heritage cornicing, timber joinery and staircase timbers were prepared and painted.

We help you settle on a heritage-appropriate colour scheme and the right sheen for each surface — walls, ceilings, trim, ironwork and wet areas — before any prep begins.
The quote includes a start date and an estimated number of working days. Original ironwork and joinery is prepared and repaired rather than painted over, and pre-1970 surfaces are handled lead-safe throughout.
We clean up at the end of every day and finish with a walk-through together — we don't leave until you're happy. The work is backed by our 5-year written workmanship guarantee.
We also paint in Double Bay, Woollahra, Darlinghurst and Randwick.

Usually not. Like-for-like repainting of already-painted surfaces is generally exempt development, even in the conservation area. Approval questions arise if you paint previously unpainted brick or stone, or significantly change a heritage-listed item's scheme.
Almost always trapped moisture. Paddington terraces are solid masonry with lime render that needs to breathe; a modern acrylic membrane traps moisture and the paint is pushed off from behind. The fix is full prep plus a vapour-permeable system — and solving the damp source first.
Assume yes on anything painted before 1970. We work to lead-safe practice under AS 4361.2 — containment, wet methods rather than dry power-sanding, HEPA clean-up and proper disposal.
Typically $6,000–$15,000 depending on render condition, the amount of iron lace and joinery, and access. A walked, itemised quote is the only accurate number.
Yes — the written quote sets out the product and finish for the ironwork, and rust is treated before any colour goes on, so it can be matched or changed as part of the same job.
No. Interiors are done room by room in a sequence agreed with you before we start, so the house stays liveable — furniture is moved to the centre of each room and covered, and floors are sheeted.
We quote them separately, but yes — we work with strata committees and property managers on full building repaints including common areas, stairwells and facades, alongside individual terrace jobs.
